Laurent Juppé, graduated from “Ecole Centrale Paris” in 1991, is today producer at XD Productions, a company he helped creating in 1998 and that he has been following ever since.
His profile has always been closely connected to technical issues, at first because it has to be this way in Computer Graphics, but also because of his technical / scientific background.
After a few years of “hard engineering” in fuzzy logic in automobile or oil industries (Renault, Elf), he steered his career towards a new direction, a better mix between his knowledge and his wishes : computer graphics.
He was first hired by Medialab, precursor in real-time Mocap Animation, in 1995. A lot was to be done, and helping artists to work along with developers was a terrific challenge. Thanks to “home made” software, Medialab broadcasted “Cléo” (Canal +),” DKTV” (France 2),” Le Bigdil” (TF1), along with post--rendered series using mocap animation.
Head of mocap dpt. at the origin of XD Productions, he developed new systems of mocap animation, helped by the explosion of software and hardware. Based on video cameras, we could also calculate 3D models based on real faces reconstruction. “Pinnocchio”, “Merlin l’Enchanteur”, “Le Roi Arthur” (3x52 : 1999 - 2006, ARTE), Rayons X (4 seasons : 2003 – 2007, France 2).
Calibrating video cameras was also helpful to develop virtual sets and to produce shows like “Science, On Tourne” (24 x 52 : 2007 – 2008, France 2), “Science X” (8 x 52 : 2008, France 2) or primes for “Théma Futur” (2 x 120 : 2005 – 2006, ARTE) and later on to introduce real time virtual reality in the prime show “Mission Millenium” (8 x 120 : 2009 – 2010, France 3), or to design, create and deliver 20 3D real time virtual sets for “MCE – Ma Chaîne Etudiante” in 2010 and 2011.
Laurent Juppé’s expertise in broadcast technologies is today recognized and represents a security in technical issues.
