As The Format Doctor, Justin is in considerable demand, working as an expert consultant with broadcasters and production companies around the world to diagnose and solve issues with their formats, from development to pilot to post-production. Justin is the ‘Doctor’ for the Entertainment Masterclass and Visiting Tutor at the UK’s National Film & TV School. He is on the Advisory Board of the Banff World TV Festival and served on the Final Jury of both Banff and the Rose D’Or in 2010. He recently gave master-classes in China and South Africa, as well as at Kidscreen 2011 in New York.
An early proponent of TV formats, Los-Angeles-based Michel Rodrigue has played a key role in driving the industry to worldwide prominence. The founder of Distraction Formats, the first-ever independent production company specializing in format distribution, Michel was dubbed ‘The Father of Formats’ at the Monte Carlo Television Festival over a decade ago. Before that he founded an independent company that produced TV formats in France and Quebec. He began a fifteen years broadcast industry career as a writer, cameraman and director at Canadian Network Tele-Capitale(Now TVA) where he grew to become the Vice President Programming & Production. An active member of the international television community, he is a founding member of FRAPA, the Format Recognition and Protection Association, as well as the EMC (Entertainment Master Class). Michel now pursues is career as the CEO of consulting firm “The Format People” serving mandates in all parts of the world.
