We are in the midst of a groundswell of changes in the TV industry and these disruptions are only set to get bigger. As consumers take control of how and when they consume content, the TV industry needs to wake up and rewire itself for this new world order. This session will explore what these changes mean and how traditional TV players can position themselves for this brave new world.
Cindy Gallop's background is brandbuilding, marketing and advertising - she started up the US office of ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty in New York in 1998 and in 2003 was named Advertising Woman of the Year. She is the founder and CEO of www.IfWeRanTheWorld.com, a web meets world platform that turns good intentions into action, one microaction at a time, to deliver Action Branding and build your Action Graph, which launched in beta with a demo at TED 2010, and of www.makelovenotporn.com, launched at TED 2009. She acts as board advisor to a number of tech startups and consults for companies around the world, describing her consultancy approach as 'I like to blow shit up. I am the Michael Bay of business.' She has a reputation as a highly compelling and inspirational speaker at conferences and events around the world on a variety of topics: her talk on ‘The Future of Advertising’ has been described on Twitter as ‘The most brilliant speech on the future of advertising ever – not the usual buzzword-laden bullshit’, and ‘Watching @cindygallop slice and dice the ad industry status quo like a ginsu knife. #purewin’. Robert Tercek is one of the world's most prolific creators of interactive content. He has created breakthrough entertainment experiences on every digital platform, including satellite television, game consoles, broadband Internet, interactive television and mobile networks. His expertise spans television, telecommunications and software.To design interactive multimedia products, Mr Tercek draws upon a broad range of experience as a television director, game designer, artist, and educator.Tercek has served in executive leadership roles at major media companies, most recently as President of Digital Media at OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, and previously as Senior Vice President of Digital Media at Sony Pictures Entertainment and earlier as Creative Director at MTV: Music Television. He also co-founded five startup ventures, including 7th Level, Inc., which went public in 1993.In 2008, Robert Tercek was named a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts in recognition of his effort to advance social progress through media.
